| Padilla Bay Shore Trail Combat ensuing cabin fever with a not too close, not too far away excursion to Padilla Bay Shore Trail. Situated on the Skagit Flats, at the Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, this dike-top trail winds along salt marshes, tidal flats and sloughs. Like an up close school fieldtrip, it’s fun to envision how the dikes and tide gates work. Each fall, geese migrate to the area to munch on eelgrass and as colder weather approaches, you’ll have ample opportunity to see a multitude of wintering birds of prey. Unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains and islands can also be seen. The path itself is altogether flat and made of hard packed, fine gravel so it’s incredibly easy to navigate. Point-to-point, it’s 2.25 miles with two easily accessible trailheads along Bay View-Edison Road, south of the Interpretive Center.
