| Connelly Creek Trail Whether you’re looking to bypass the pavement while navigating between city greenways to the north and south or you want to experience diversity of nature in a short stretch, Connelly Creek Trail is a great choice. Winding through the Connelly Creek Nature Area, the trail can be accessed at Donovan and 30th Street. At one mile, it consists mostly of flat terrain with a few undulating sections and roots, big and small, underfoot. You’ll initially travel north between just ripening blackberry bushes, then through a young alder grove before entering woods filled with big cedars and some of the largest Sitka Spruce trees in the city. Then pass a meadow before coming out at Joe’s Garden off of 32nd St. From there travel between the upper and lower fields of the garden before working your way uphill through forest to Sehome High School and the Sehome Arboretum just across the street. From the southern trailhead you can quickly access the Interurban Trail by following the sidewalk on the south side of Donovan west for one block to little known Happy Valley Park where a bridge crossing takes you to Old Fairhaven Parkway and the Interurban Trail just beyond. http://www.cob.org/services/recreation/parks-trails/trail-guide.aspx By, Genevie Roguski |
